Bordeaux's new stadium roof at the halfway stage

The installation of the roof of Bordeaux's New Stadium continues apace.

With the lifting of the metal roof structure now halfway through, it's the ideal time to take stock of the progress and progress of the roofing of the stadium.

Begun on 20 February, the roof of the New Bordeaux Stadium now covers the West Stand, the North Stand and is beginning to cover the East Stand. Developed according to a predefined schedule by the Castel Fromaget teams, the roofing elements are being installed in a clockwise direction. At 55 metres long, the roof of the New Bordeaux Stadium covers all the spectators. Emphasising the desire for optimum visibility inside the stadium, all the metal posts are located outside the spectators' field of view. The sound and light systems are all integrated into the roof.

The roof of the New Bordeaux Stadium is designed to provide comfort for spectators and also to meet the needs of the stadium's future pitch. As a result, the roof is made up of both an opaque steel section and a translucent polycarbonate section, increasing the amount of sunshine available each day. The design of the roof was based on the multifunctional nature of the building. The firmness of the roof on the upper flight will ensure good sound quality during matches and concerts. An underside of perforated white corrugated sheeting, covered with a membrane, will improve the acoustics of the enclosure.

Currently, 21 of the 44 metal roof structure packages have already been installed. The roof covering will be completed at the end of summer 2014, when the last elements of the roof will be lifted and fixed along the south stand, visible from the Avenue de la Jallère. At the end of a hot and sunny summer, it will be a sight to behold.
